Exploring sustainability and Finnish nature – Duru’s internship at Black Bruin

We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming Duru Yildirim, a third-year Industrial Engineering student at Baskent University in Ankara, to our team this past month. Her internship on sustainability topics and supplier communications was a valuable support to our projects, and we truly appreciated the fresh perspective she brought during her time with us. Let’s hear how Duru reflects on her experience in Finland.

“During my time at Black Bruin, I had the chance to work on sustainability topics that are highly valued important both by the company and in Finland as a whole. I focused on Voluntary Sustainability report (VSME), the CO₂ decarbonization roadmap and carbon footprint calculations.”

“In addition to research, I also supported communication with our suppliers in Turkey by preparing Turkish translations for the service documentation of hydraulic motors. This was important for building stronger relationships and showing that the company values its partners. Overall, it was a rewarding experience to see how sustainability and innovation are closely connected at Black Bruin and how Finland´s strong sustainability culture is reflected in daily work.”

“Living in Jyväskylä was a wonderful experience for me. I truly loved the nature here; the lakes, forests and fresh air gave me a deep sense of peace. People were friendly and warm, which made me feel comfortable and welcome. In my free time, even something as simple as going for a walk brought me calmness and joy, especially by the lakeside. I also enjoyed the simplicity and closeness to nature in Finnish culture.”
