Introducing Johnny Karlsson – A powerhouse determined to keep Black Bruin motors spinning in Scandinavia

23.2.2024

Johnny Karlsson has been appointed Sales Director Scandinavia at Black Bruin as of February 9, 2024. Bringing a wealth of international experience in sales, marketing, and business development, Johnny, based in Umeå, Sweden, will be developing both mobile and industrial motor sales operations across the Scandinavian market.

“Black Bruin stands for world-class quality, not only in the product itself but also in the know-how of my co-workers. This was really appealing to me when taking on this position. There are a lot of opportunities, especially in the industrial sector, so I look forward to prospecting and processing the market potentials. I will be the prolonged Black Bruin arm for our customers in Scandinavia, helping them with new projects or enhancing the performance of their current equipment. With experience working on projects with various international machine manufacturers, I want to add value as their local asset from idea to implementation,” Johnny says.

Building up the high torque from low speeds

Before stepping into the world of sales and marketing, Johnny was a force to be reckoned with in a slightly different arena.By that time, he had already successfully competed at a high level in discus throw, defeating even the Olympic and two-time world champion and record-holder, the mighty Daniel Ståhl. Unfortunately, his promising athletics career came to an end in 2013 due to a muscle tear injury. Nevertheless, hitting a personal best of nearly 60 meters just before the injury, being a finalist at the International World Junior Championships in 2008, and winning six gold medals at the Swedish National Junior Championships are undeniably merits to be proud of.

Before the injury, Johnny was one of the best discuss throwers in Sweden.

The technique and precision required in discus throwing surprisingly align with the characteristics of low-speed high-torque radial piston motors. “In both worlds, it’s about mastering the spin, finding the perfect balance, and delivering a powerful, controlled force;” says Johnny with a smile on his face.

“I’d like to think athletics gave me so many great memories and the chance to travel around the world, meet new friends, gain international experience, develop language skills and undergo personal growth. Naturally, these are very valuable and helpful lessons to carry along in a global business environment as well,” Johnny concludes.

How about ice hockey?

Johnny spends a lot of his spare time with his family and enjoys fishing. Knowing your personal history from victorius Finnkampen and hockey battles between Lejonen and Tre Kronor, will you be joining HC Black Bruin to show some ‘Forsberg moves’ in future tournaments? “Sure, that sounds like a lot of fun, but I don’t know about Forsberg’s finesse moves. I’ll probably go with sheer force and slap shots,” Johnny laughs.
